There has been a slight change to our home school schedule. RA has been registered for a summer program for this month. We were not sure whether to enroll her to this program or not. We strongly feel that she needs to mix with children at her age. There are no children except some newborn in our neighborhood and we can’t go to park every day. Again it was very hard to let her go. So I did istikharah and decided to enroll her. This is a joint program by Islamic school and the local mosque. It is not their aim to teach a lot of things, rather they want to let children play with other children in an Islamic environment. RA is in group one. Their daily procedures are as follows (I am just quoting from their flyer)-
The camp runs from 10 am-3pm, Monday –Wednesday, July 05-july 28.2011.
Morning 10am-12pm: Arabic alphabet, wudu, shahada. memorization of Al-Fatiha plus another short surah depending on time.
1pm-2pm: lunch and prayer
1pm-3pm: during this time children will be involved in different, age appropriate activities including going to the playground, sports, science, crafts, painting-our goal is to make this time really memorable and fun for everyone.
Thursdays are field optional field trips day at an extra cost. All parents participating in the co-op must accompany their children to the field trip.
We missed the first field trip. It was to the science museum. We attended the second one. It was picnic in a park. Next one is zoo visit. And last Thursday the campers will meet at the school for “International Day.”
So this being the schedule of the summer program, our home education schedule has been changed. Alhamdulillah we have finished week nine. I think this was our longest week lesson. We cannot do much after RA is back from school. Little by little-we added every day.
Ra was not quite enthusiastic about school. Every day she tries to say no but when she gets there she wants to stay. First day we went early to pick her up and also to see how she was doing. I was little worried since it was her first time staying outside without me for a long time. She saw me and ran to me crying. But Alhamdulillah next day she was fine. She has friends there she likes to play with. InshaAllah when the summer program will be over I will write all about it.
